Welcome

Welcome! I’m so glad you’re here. My name is Mary Abigail Degge, but you can simply call me Abby. I am a therapist with over 13 years of experience working with individuals like you seeking help and a fresh perspective. I firmly believe every human being is deeply resilient, capable of overcoming difficult circumstances, and coping with unexpected life transitions. Access to quality and affordable mental healthcare is a human right, and I cherish the opportunity to provide that for clients.

I welcome clients from all walks of life to the therapeutic setting, and I actively affirm people from all races, sexual orientations and identities, religious backgrounds, and cultural experiences. My approach to therapy is person-centered and psychodynamic, meaning I integrate various therapeutic techniques into our work to meet your specific needs. My goal is to create a sacred space where you feel empowered to work through complex emotions and achieve positive outcomes. Through our therapeutic partnership, I hope to join you on your journey and create a path towards healing and growth.

Meet Abby

I received my Masters in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice in 2011. While at Penn, I was a Charter Member of the Penn Aging Concentration (PAC) and a member of the Advanced Standing Cohort. I hold a clinical social work license (LCSW) to practice psychotherapy in the state of New York as well as a clinical certification in geriatrics from the National Association of Social Workers (CSW-G). My clinical training includes but is not limited to human behavior, systems theory, anxiety and depression, complex trauma, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction.

I deeply value diversity and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the therapeutic space. Throughout my clinical career, I’ve practiced in five states across the U.S. in both urban and rural settings. For over a decade, I worked in geriatrics, hospice, palliative care, oncology, and those in need of organ transplantation. Most recently, I practiced at The Mt. Sinai Hospital in the Brookdale Department of Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine.

In 2020, I was a frontline healthcare worker in New York City during the COVID-19 pandemic. This profound experience inspired me to found this practice and create an intentional space for individuals seeking support, healing, and growth. When I am not practicing psychotherapy, I enjoy running, cycling, and thrifting to give second-hand items a new home.

Helping Professionals & Caregivers

Do you identify as a helper? Do you give so much to others that you have little left to give to yourself? Whether in a professional or personal context, caring for others full-time can be challenging, overwhelming, and often leads to feelings of anxiety, depression, and burnout. Therapy is a valuable place to process the helping part of your identity while also reconnecting with your holistic needs as an individual.

Grief & Loss

Have you experienced the loss of a relationship, career, or loved one? Perhaps you’re anticipating a big life transition and feel the looming absence of familiarity. Navigating the complex emotions brought about by grief or loss can be a lonely and alienating experience. Through a collaborative partnership, we will work through the ambiguity of grief and loss to help you find peace, meaning, and acceptance of your new reality.

Chronic Illness

Do you spend most of your time worrying about your health or attending doctors appointments? Living with a chronic or serious illness can feel like an all-consuming, full time job. Therapy creates an opportunity to foster healthy coping skills and help you reclaim your identity beyond the illness.

Aging

Growing older is a natural part of life, and in fact, something we unconsciously confront every day. You may find the aging process presents new challenges in your well-being and interpersonal relationships. Engagement in therapy will help you navigate these changes while redefining your future goals.

Anxiety & Depression

Are you feeling overwhelmed by emotion? In a time where we are flooded with an endless stream of information and image crafting, it can be difficult to sustain a sense of groundedness and belonging in the everyday. A therapeutic setting removes the façade of isolation brought on by anxiety and depression. Together, we can process the realities of the past and accept the uncertainties of the future by refocusing on the present.
